Sahar Vardi began in her early teens demonstrating against the Israeli occupation with the Burnat family in Bil’in. When she turned 18, she became a conscientious objector; she served three prison sentences for her refusal to be conscripted into Israel’s military service. She works with other refusers and serves as Coordinator of American Friends Service Committee‘s Israel program in east Jerusalem. She is one of the women from around the globe featured in the Nobel Women’s Initiative.
